Our Story

On April 13, 1947, West End Baptist Church held its first worship service in an old World War II tent placed on a lot donated by Mr. W.H. Gauntt. Within a few months the church had outgrown the tent and the members decided to build a permanent building on the same site. The congregation grew steadily and old school buses and an annex located across the street were used for classes for fourteen years until a new building was desperately needed. The church purchased land across the street and the present location was completed in three stages. The new sanctuary and education building were dedicated in 1961. In 1984, because of continued growth a new addition containing a fellowship hall and additional classrooms was built and dedicated. West End continues to be a lighthouse in this community now known as Valley. In 2014, the Family Life Center was built with a gymnasium to accommodate fellowship in this growing church.

Our Beliefs

As a Southern Baptist Church, we believe in the truths of Scripture as clarified in the Baptist Faith and Message (2000).

Common Visitor Questions:

What do I wear?
- We are a casual church. The Pastor does not wear a coat and tie, and the members wear everything from shorts and t-shirts, to polos or suits.
Church is new to me, will I fit in?
- Yes, you will! We have people from all walks of life. You will find a lot of friendly people who love to meet new people.
When does this church meet?
- Life groups(Sunday School) 9:30 on Sundays
- Worship service 10:30 on Sundays
- Prayer and Bible Study 6:30pm on Wednesdays
Does the church pass plates during service?

- We don't believe in pressuring you to give. God wants us to give from our own cheerful hearts. If you feel led to give, the plate is at the main exits.
What about child care?
- We have nursery available throughout the main service. After the singing, we have children’s church for all kids up to 3rd grade. Just ask a greeter when you arrive and they will get you checked in and connected.
How can I learn more about the church?
- The best way is to talk to our pastor and get more involved. We are transparent with our finances and vote on major issues in our monthly business meeting on Wednesday nights. We also have a 4 session New Members class that meets once a month on a Sunday after church for those who want to learn more about us!
